OMAHA, Neb. — In an impressive performance, Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 20 points as Creighton secured an 84-64 win over Providence on Tuesday night.
Kalkbrenner’s contribution included 10 rebounds and six blocks, showcasing his dominance on both ends of the court for the Bluejays, who now sit at a record of 11-6 and 4-2 within the Big East Conference.
Alongside Kalkbrenner, Steven Ashworth also made a significant impact, putting up 20 points while distributing the ball with six assists. Isaac Traudt further bolstered the team’s efforts with 13 points, hitting all four of his three-point attempts.
On the other side, the Friars struggled to find their rhythm, with Corey Floyd Jr. leading the team with 10 points and eight rebounds. Ryan Mela and Wesley Cardet Jr. each contributed 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Creighton.
The Bluejays broke away early in the game, taking the lead with 16:26 remaining in the first half, and they maintained control from that point onwards.
With Kalkbrenner scoring 15 of his points in the opening half, Creighton headed into halftime with a solid 43-34 advantage. The second half saw the Bluejays outscore the Friars by an additional 11 points, highlighted by Traudt’s leading 13 points in the latter period.
Overall, Creighton’s balanced scoring and strong defense played a key role in their decisive victory over Providence.
