CHICAGO — Josh Rojas, an infielder, has signed with the Chicago White Sox and can potentially receive up to $1 million in performance-related bonuses in addition to his base salary of $3.5 million.

The contract, which was made public on January 8, includes a provision allowing Rojas to earn $500,000 tied to the number of games he plays. He can earn $100,000 for participating in 90 games, with additional increments of $100,000 for every 10 games played thereafter, reaching a maximum at 130 games.

Moreover, Rojas has the opportunity to garner another $500,000 based on his plate appearances. Under this agreement, he would earn $100,000 after 300 plate appearances, plus an additional $100,000 for every 50 appearances he makes, maxing out at 500. Additionally, he would receive a $150,000 bonus if he’s traded.

In his previous season with Seattle, Rojas played in 143 games, finishing with a .225 batting average, along with eight home runs, 31 runs batted in (RBIs), and 10 stolen bases. He entered free agency in November after the Mariners opted not to extend a contract for 2025. Over his six-year career across two teams—Arizona (2019-2023) and Seattle (2023-2024)—the 30-year-old has amassed a .247 batting average, 34 home runs, and 189 RBIs.

Rojas’s contract also features various performance incentives linked to MVP voting. He would earn $100,000 for being named MVP, with diminishing amounts for finishing second, third, fourth, and fifth in the voting, at $90,000, $80,000, $70,000, and $60,000, respectively. Additional bonuses include $100,000 for being the World Series MVP, $75,000 for League Championship Series MVP, $50,000 for winning a Gold Glove or being selected for The Sporting News All-Star team, $25,000 for making the All-Star team, and $15,000 for being selected to it.
