CINCINNATI — On Monday, the Cincinnati Reds confirmed that they have finalized an agreement to return to their previous regional sports network partner for the upcoming season.
This means that Reds games will be broadcast locally on FanDuel Sports Network Ohio.
In November, both parties announced plans to end their partnership during the bankruptcy proceedings involving Diamond Sports Group, with the Reds holding a 20% equity share in what is now FanDuel Sports Network Ohio.
Following this decision, Diamond repurchased the team’s stake for a mere $1.
Diamond successfully emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy on January 2, rebranding itself as Main Street Sports Group.
Initially, the Reds intended to have Major League Baseball handle the production and distribution of their games but later opted for a different direction.
Under the new agreement, fans who subscribe to cable and satellite services within the Reds’ television territory will be able to stream games and additional programming via the FanDuel Sports Network app.
Furthermore, fans who access the FanDuel Sports Network through a direct-to-consumer model will also have the opportunity to watch the games.
Doug Healy, the Reds’ chief operating officer and chief financial officer, emphasized that this decision aims to provide fans with a consistent viewing experience akin to previous seasons.
He stated, “The decision to stay with FanDuel Sports Network provides continuity for our fans to watch Reds games as in previous seasons, and now with a direct-to-consumer streaming product available through the FanDuel Sports Network app.”
This marks the second instance in a fortnight where a team has opted to return to the regional sports network framework rather than remain with MLB’s distribution model.
The Milwaukee Brewers, for instance, announced their return to FanDuel Sports Network on December 31 after their prior agreement concluded at the end of the 2024 season.
In total, Main Street Sports holds broadcasting rights for nine MLB teams for the upcoming season, while MLB is set to produce and distribute games for five teams in 2025.
