Raiders Explore Coaching Candidates with Vance Joseph Interview Request
In Henderson, Nevada, the Las Vegas Raiders have moved forward in their search for a new head coach by requesting to interview Vance Joseph, who is currently serving as the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. This marks him as the seventh known candidate for the head coaching role following the recent firing of Antonio Pierce.
The Raiders have already coordinated interviews or have set them up with several prominent figures in the coaching world. These include Pete Carroll, the former head coach of the Seattle Seahawks and Southern California, along with Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson, who currently serve as coordinators for the Detroit Lions, handling defensive and offensive roles respectively. Also in the mix are Robert Saleh, who formerly coached the New York Jets, and Steve Spagnuolo, the defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Additionally, an interview has been requested with Todd Monken, the offensive coordinator from the Baltimore Ravens. However, that discussion is likely to be delayed as the Ravens continue their playoff journey following a recent victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Furthermore, Las Vegas is also facing a general manager vacancy after the release of Tom Telesco last week, though there haven’t been any public requests for interviews for that position as of yet. It appears the Raiders may be holding off on general manager candidates, potentially waiting for insights from coaching interviewees regarding possible candidates who could fit together in a dual role.
Vance Joseph brings a history of coaching experience to the table, having previously been the head coach for the Broncos from 2017 to 2018, where he recorded a 11-21 record. After his time in Denver, he spent four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, eventually returning to the Broncos in the same capacity. Under his leadership this season, the Broncos ranked third in the league for points allowed, averaging just 18.3, and seventh for total yardage given up, with an average of 317.1 yards.
