Isaiah Collier’s clutch layup in overtime propels the Jazz past the Nets 112-111

SALT LAKE CITY — In a thrilling overtime matchup on Sunday night, the Utah Jazz triumphed over the Brooklyn Nets with a final score of 112-111, thanks to a clutch layup by Isaiah Collier just two seconds before the buzzer.

Collier had an impressive performance, achieving a career-high of 23 points, along with seven rebounds and seven assists. He was supported by Collin Sexton, who contributed 21 points, helping the Jazz break a three-game losing streak. Additionally, both Svi Mykhailiuk and Brice Sensabaugh added depth to the scoring with 16 points each.

Initially, Sensabaugh’s three-pointer gave Utah a 110-108 lead with 1:48 left in the game, but Tosan Evbuomwan responded by hitting two crucial free throws to edge Brooklyn ahead with just 6.4 seconds remaining.

Evbuomwan was the standout player for the Nets, finishing the game with 22 points, while Ziaire Williams followed closely behind with 19 points. Ben Simmons and Nic Claxton also played significant roles for Brooklyn, each scoring 14 points, with Simmons dishing out nine assists and Claxton pulling down 12 rebounds.

This defeat marks the fifth consecutive loss for the Nets. Throughout the game, Brooklyn was unable to maintain a lead, despite playing from behind for most of the fourth quarter. Williams’s four consecutive free throws tied the score at 102 with just over a minute left in regulation.

Critical takeaways from the game reveal that Brooklyn’s inability to convert on key scoring opportunities and free throws significantly hindered their chances of securing a second victory in their last five away games. On the other hand, Utah’s success can be attributed to their effective long-range shooting, as they sank 17 three-pointers and posted a 39% shooting percentage from beyond the arc, leading to their third win at home this season.

A pivotal moment occurred late in regulation when both Tyrese Martin and Claxton missed go-ahead scoring chances in the last 30 seconds, allowing the Jazz to go scoreless in the final two minutes.

In terms of team status, both Brooklyn and Utah had only 11 active players available due to a stretch of injuries impacting their rosters.

Looking ahead, the Nets are set to face the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, while the Jazz will welcome the Charlotte Hornets for their next home game on Wednesday.
