LOS ANGELES — The highly anticipated match between top-ranked UCLA and Penn State scheduled for Wednesday will now take place at the campus of Long Beach State. This decision was made due to the hazardous conditions posed by the ongoing wildfires, which have resulted in multiple safety concerns in the area.

The game is set to unfold at Walter Pyramid, located approximately 35 miles away from UCLA’s campus in Westwood. This area is in close proximity to the Palisades fire, which is currently uncontained and poses a significant risk.

In light of these events, UCLA has also decided to suspend in-person classes until January 17, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and staff amidst the crisis.

Previously, Penn State faced No. 4 USC on Sunday at the Galen Center in downtown Los Angeles, showcasing the competitive spirit of college basketball even during challenging circumstances.

Additionally, Northwestern, originally scheduled to compete against the Los Angeles teams on both Sunday and Wednesday, opted out of the travel plans due to concerns related to the wildfires. This was despite UCLA’s proposal to relocate the game to a safer, off-campus venue.
