NORMAN, Okla. — Raegan Beers contributed 16 points to help propel the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners to a 77-62 victory over Texas A&M on Sunday before leaving the game due to a left shoulder injury in the third quarter.
The 6-foot-4 center was assisted off the court by her teammates and later returned to the bench with an ice pack on her shoulder, although she did not re-enter the game.
This victory allowed the Sooners (14-3, 2-2 SEC) to bounce back from a recent loss to Mississippi State, marking their first home SEC win in their inaugural season in the conference.
Aicha Coulibaly led Texas A&M (8-8, 1-3) with 16 points, but the team struggled from the field, shooting at just 26.9%.
The defeat marked the second consecutive blowout loss for the Aggies, who previously endured a 90-49 setback to No. 2 South Carolina on Thursday.
Oklahoma started strong, successfully converting 9 of their 14 shooting attempts in the first quarter with Beers scoring 10 points, allowing them to establish a significant 27-10 lead.
By halftime, the Sooners extended their lead to 44-23, having restricted the Aggies to a mere 18.9% shooting effort. Before leaving, Beers tallied 16 points and went 10 for 11 from the free-throw line in the first half.
Takeaways indicate that Texas A&M attempted to mount a comeback in the third quarter, but they were unable to capitalize on Beers’ absence. At the time of her injury, the Aggies trailed by 21 points and managed to outscore the Sooners 24-18 in the latter part of the game.
For Oklahoma, despite the victory, it was not their cleanest performance as they struggled with their shooting, hitting only 8 of 33 attempts from beyond the arc, and committing 19 turnovers. Improvements will be necessary to compete with tougher opponents in upcoming games.
A pivotal moment in the match occurred when Oklahoma, having already built a 17-point lead before the second quarter, managed to limit Texas A&M to just one field goal in the first five minutes, showcasing their defensive prowess.
Notably, Texas A&M had a rough outing from three-point range, making only 3 of 19 attempts.
Looking ahead, Texas A&M will host Georgia, while Oklahoma is set to welcome Missouri, both scheduled for Thursday.
