NEWARK, N.J. — Corinne Schroeder showcased her skills by preventing any goals for the second consecutive match, while Jessie Eldridge netted the decisive goal just a minute before the end of overtime, leading the New York Sirens to a narrow 1-0 victory against the Toronto Sceptres on Sunday.

Schroeder previously accomplished a shutout against Minnesota, recording 26 saves in New York’s dominant 5-0 victory over the Frost on January 4. In the matchup against Toronto, she added to her impressive performance with 28 saves, marking her fifth win this season and her second in an overtime scenario.

Her exceptional play has now improved her goals-against average to 1.86, maintaining her position as the leader in the league. Only two goalkeepers, including Maddie Rooney from Minnesota, who has an average of 1.98, are currently allowing fewer than two goals per game throughout the season.

With neither team managing to score during regulation, the game progressed into a five-minute three-on-three overtime session where both sides had opportunities. The Sirens took the ice with Alex Carpenter and Sarah Fillier, who collectively have contributed nine goals this season. Despite a few chances, they were unable to penetrate the defense of Toronto’s goalkeeper, Kristen Campbell. The Sceptres’ Sarah Nurse seized upon a long rebound but missed her breakaway attempt against Schroeder, while Daryl Watts also missed a clear shot.

After Schroeder thwarted two attempts from Toronto in the fourth minute of overtime, Fillier intercepted the puck in her corner and executed a long cross-ice pass. Eldridge skillfully followed the puck and made a close-range shot, lifting it over Campbell’s right shoulder, just as she was near the goal line.

This victory marks New York’s second win in overtime this season (3-2-1-3), following their earlier win against Minnesota and a shootout loss to the Frost. Meanwhile, Toronto (2-0-2-5) faced defeat in their only other overtime match against Montreal.
