LUBBOCK, Texas — In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the No. 11 ranked TCU Horned Frogs secured a significant victory against Texas Tech with a final score of 69-43 on Saturday night. This win marked the first time TCU triumphed in Lubbock in six years.
Hailey Van Lith led TCU with 22 points, showcasing her scoring ability by making 7 of 14 shots and converting 8 of 9 free throws, while also contributing seven assists. Sedona Prince played a pivotal role as well, recording a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, hitting 10 of her 15 attempts from the field. Madison Conner provided additional support with 13 points, including four 3-pointers for the Horned Frogs, who now boast a record of 17 wins and just one loss (5-0 in the Big 12).
For Texas Tech, Bailey Maupin was the standout performer, scoring 23 points. She struggled with her shooting, making only 6 out of 25 attempts but was perfect from the free-throw line, going 10 for 10 while also grabbing eight rebounds. This loss marked the fourth consecutive defeat for Texas Tech, who hold a record of 12-6 (1-4 in the conference).
The second quarter proved crucial, as Van Lith took charge, scoring 10 points of TCU’s 16 during that period. Meanwhile, Texas Tech struggled offensively, recording only five points on 2 of 14 shooting, allowing TCU to take a commanding 33-21 lead into halftime. Although Texas Tech managed to maintain a competitive spirit in the third quarter, their shooting woes persisted, culminating in a disappointing fourth quarter where they were outscored 16-4.
The previous road victory for TCU over Texas Tech came on February 6, 2019, when they made a significant comeback from a 15-point deficit to win 70-63. Looking ahead, TCU aims to extend their current winning streak, which now stands at eight games, with a home matchup against UCF on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Texas Tech will seek to regroup as they head to Iowa State for their upcoming game on the same day.
