DES MOINES, Iowa — In a decisive performance, Bennett Stirtz led the Drake Bulldogs to a commanding 63-40 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces on Saturday night.
Stirtz showcased an all-around game, contributing not only with 16 points but also securing seven rebounds, dishing out six assists, and recording three steals. This victory improves Drake’s record to 14 wins and 2 losses, placing them at 4-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Additionally, Daniel Abreu added 12 points to the scoreboard, going 4 for 10 from the field, including 2 for 8 from beyond the arc, and successfully making 2 of his 3 attempts from the free-throw line. Tavion Banks also made his presence felt, finishing the game with 11 points, hitting 2 of 9 attempts from the field, but more effectively converting 7 of his 8 free throws.
On the other side, Tayshawn Comer was a standout for the Purple Aces, contributing 11 points to the team’s effort, while Cameron Haffner added another 10 points.
The game shifted in Drake’s favor when they took the lead with 5:07 remaining in the first half, moving ahead 25-20 by halftime as Stirtz scored seven points during that period.
The Bulldogs dominated the second half, expanding their lead to an impressive 44-21, highlighted by a remarkable 19-1 scoring spree. Stirtz continued to shine, ending the second half as the top scorer for his team with nine points, sealing the victory.
