YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — In an exciting Horizon League matchup on Saturday, Cleveland State triumphed over Youngstown State with a final score of 80-72. Tahj Staveskie was a standout performer for the Vikings, scoring 21 points throughout the game.
Staveskie’s shooting was impressive, hitting 7 of 17 attempts from the field, including 4 of 10 from beyond the arc, and converting 3 of 4 from the free-throw line. Alongside him, Dylan Arnett contributed significantly, with 15 points on an efficient 6 of 8 shooting, in addition to grabbing 12 rebounds. Tevin Smith also had a noteworthy performance, scoring 14 points after shooting 4 for 11, with 3 of those field goals coming from three-point territory, while also making 3 of 4 free throws. With this victory, Cleveland State extended their winning streak to an impressive eight games.
On the other side, Cris Carroll was the leading scorer for the Penguins, putting up 18 points in a valiant effort. Ty Harper also played well, finishing with 16 points and securing eight rebounds. Jason Nelson added to the effort with 10 points and four assists, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Vikings.
Looking ahead, Cleveland State will face off against Northern Kentucky at their home arena this Wednesday, while Youngstown State will head to Milwaukee for their next game on Friday.
