Olean, N.Y. — Deuce Jones sank a decisive 3-pointer with just one second left in overtime, leading La Salle to a narrow victory over Saint Bonaventure with a score of 83-82 on Saturday.
The game-winning shot was a contested bank shot, showcasing Jones’ poise under pressure.
Jones had a strong performance, finishing the game with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and contributed three steals for the Explorers, who improved to a 9-7 record overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Teammate Demetrius Lilley also scored 16 points, alongside grabbing eight rebounds. Daeshon Shepherd made his mark with 14 points, shooting 5-of-12, which included hitting 2-of-6 from three-point territory.
On the other side, the Bonnies, who now stand at 14-3 and 2-2 in conference play, were propelled by Lajae Jones, who led all scorers with 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Noel Brown added valuable support with 17 points and eight rebounds as well, while Melvin Council Jr. contributed 16 points and recorded two steals.
Both teams are set to return to the court on Wednesday. La Salle will face Davidson in a home matchup, while Saint Bonaventure will take on Richmond at their home venue.
