Marmoush, a potential Man City target, finds the net once more for Frankfurt.

BERLIN — Emerging Manchester City target Omar Marmoush increased his market value by netting the only goal in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 triumph over St. Pauli in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The Egyptian forward struck his 14th league goal in the 32nd minute, showcasing his skill with two precise touches that guided the ball past the goalkeeper from a challenging angle to nestle inside the far post.

Prior to the match, Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krösche acknowledged that another club has shown interest in Marmoush, though he refrained from disclosing whether it was Manchester City. The English champions have faced some struggles lately under the management of Pep Guardiola.

Reports have surfaced indicating that Frankfurt is seeking a staggering fee of 80 million euros (approximately $82 million) for Marmoush, yet Krösche remained non-committal about this valuation. “It’s pointless to discuss prices at this stage,” he stated. “Our primary focus is to maintain the integrity of this team. However, we are also realistic—if extraordinary situations arise, we may have to consider offers for our leading players. But we haven’t reached that point yet.”

If a transfer occurs, it would mark the second significant transfer success for Frankfurt in just over a season, following the sale of Randal Kolo Muani to Paris Saint-Germain for 95 million euros (around $103 million) in 2023.

Marmoush joined Frankfurt on a free transfer from Bundesliga competitor Wolfsburg in 2023 and is contracted with the club until the summer of 2027. This season, he has already scored 19 goals in 25 matches across all competitions for Frankfurt.

In another Bundesliga match, Bayern Munich secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach through a penalty converted by Harry Kane. This win allowed Bayern to maintain their four-point advantage at the top of the table in the late game.

Adopting a defensive approach, the home side frustrated Bayern, who struggled to create chances without Jamal Musiala, who was sidelined due to illness. Kane, largely quiet throughout the match, found the net from the penalty spot in the 68th minute after Michael Olise was fouled lightly by Lukas Ullrich, with no intervention from VAR.

This marked Kane’s first shot on goal of the match and resulted in his 15th league goal of the season in just 14 appearances. Bayern remained four points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, who put pressure on them with a dramatic 3-2 victory against Borussia Dortmund the previous night.

Meanwhile, Steffen Baumgart faced a challenging start as the new coach of Union Berlin, with his team conceding an early goal and losing defender Tom Rothe to a red card in a 2-0 defeat against Heidenheim, who had previously suffered seven consecutive Bundesliga losses.

Baumgart, a former Union player, took over as coach on December 30, following the dismissal of Bo Svensson, who failed to secure a win in nine matches across all competitions. Following this match, the losing streak extends to ten.

In other results, Jonathan Burkardt found the net twice to help Mainz secure a 2-0 victory at home against Bochum. Burkardt has been reported as a target for Frankfurt should Marmoush indeed move. Additionally, Freiburg managed to hold on to a 3-2 win over visiting Holstein Kiel.
