NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Ja’Kair Sanchez played a pivotal role in Wagner’s hard-fought 62-57 win over Central Connecticut State on Friday evening.
Sanchez led the team with 19 points and complemented his scoring with seven rebounds for the Seahawks, who hold a record of 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the Northeast Conference.
Teammate Zaire Williams also made significant contributions, scoring 18 points with an impressive shooting performance of 4 for 10 overall, which included 4 for 8 from beyond the arc, and he remained perfect at the free-throw line, going 6 for 6.
Zae Blake also added to the offensive effort with 12 points, delivering a strong shooting night as he went 4 for 7 from the floor and 3 for 4 from the charity stripe.
On the opposing side, the Blue Devils, who now have an 11-5 record and 2-1 in the conference, were led by Davonte Sweatman, who scored 14 points.
Central Connecticut also received solid performances from Jayden Brown, who contributed 12 points and collected six rebounds, along with Joe Ostrowsky, who chipped in with eight points.
With this defeat, Central Connecticut saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, adding to the drama of the night.
