EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The Chargers have decided not to promote Ezekiel Elliott from their practice squad ahead of their AFC wild-card matchup against the Houston Texans this Saturday.
The seasoned running back joined the practice squad just a few days ago, signing on Tuesday and participating in three practices since then. Elliott, previously a member of the Dallas Cowboys, was let go on December 31 in hopes of joining a playoff-bound team that needed a reliable running back.
In addition to these developments, the Chargers executed several roster changes on Friday. They activated cornerback Eli Apple and wide receiver Simi Fehoko from injured reserve, while placing defensive back Ja’Sir Taylor on injured reserve. Furthermore, the team elevated safety Eddie Jackson and running back Jaret Patterson from the practice squad for the playoff game.
Apple, who signed with the Chargers on October 15, has played in four games this season but has been sidelined for the past six weeks due to a hamstring injury. Fehoko, on the other hand, has been recovering from an elbow issue sustained during a game against Cleveland on November 3, resulting in him missing the last nine games of the season.
The Chargers are working to solidify their roster as they approach a critical playoff encounter, hoping to utilize the experience and skill of the players activated.
