Robin Fraser appointed as head coach for Toronto FC in MLS

Toronto has named Robin Fraser as their new head coach, marking his third tenure in Major League Soccer. Fraser’s previous coaching experiences were with Chivas USA and the Colorado Rapids.

Fraser, who is 58 years old, steps in to take over from John Herdman, who departed the club in November after a 14-month stint. During Herdman’s tenure, Toronto struggled, failing to qualify for the playoffs, and ended the season in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, achieving a record of 11 victories, 19 defeats, and 4 draws.

Fraser has signed a contract that will keep him with the team through the 2027 season.

As a player, Fraser was a defender who represented the United States national team 27 times between 1998 and 2001. His coaching career includes leading Chivas USA during the 2011 and 2012 seasons and overseeing the Colorado Rapids from August 2019 until September 2023.

Before taking on head coaching roles, Fraser served as an assistant coach with Toronto from 2015 to 2019 under Greg Vanney, during which time he contributed to the team’s victory in their solitary MLS championship in 2017.
