LOS ANGELES — Megan Thee Stallion has successfully secured a restraining order against Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence. This protective order will be in effect until early 2030, as decided by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Bloom during a recent hearing.
Megan, the celebrated hip-hop artist, alleged that Lanez is attempting to harass her from behind bars by using intermediaries. Judge Bloom approved her request for the protective order after established evidence suggesting that Lanez’s actions posed a potential threat.
In an official objection submitted by Lanez’s attorney, Michael Hayden, it was argued that Lanez’s imprisonment implies there is no current or foreseeable danger to Megan, and claimed there has been no direct communication between them recently. However, the court found sufficient grounds to extend the temporary restraining order until January 9, 2030.
Megan first obtained a temporary restraining order in November. In her petition, she stated that Lanez is coordinating attacks on her reputation through third parties, including fabricating assertions about missing evidence related to the case, such as a firearm and bullet fragments.
Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on multiple felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic weapon, possession of a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. His legal team’s request for a new trial was denied, and they are currently appealing the conviction.
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez fired a gun at her feet and shouted for her to dance while she was walking away from an SUV following a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence in the Hollywood Hills. At that time, Megan was gaining significant recognition in the music industry, and since the incident, her popularity has further increased. In 2021, she won a Grammy for best new artist and achieved number one singles with “Savage,” featuring Beyoncé, as well as a collaboration on Cardi B’s “WAP.”
In contrast, Lanez, who is 32 years old, launched his music career with mixtapes in 2009 and progressively gained fame, releasing albums that have charted in the top 10 on Billboard.
