The Chicago Cubs have made a move to bolster their bullpen by securing reliever Matt Festa from the Texas Rangers in exchange for a cash deal, a transaction that took place on Thursday.
Festa, a right-handed pitcher aged 31, had a record of 6-1 and an earned run average (ERA) of 5.70 during his time with Texas, which included 18 games. He also made one appearance last season with the New York Mets. Over his five-season career in Major League Baseball, he has compiled an 8-3 record with a 4.60 ERA in a total of 108 games played, representing teams including Seattle, New York, and Texas.
The Texas Rangers decided to designate Festa for assignment as they signed reliever Chris Martin to a one-year contract on Monday evening. To accommodate Festa on their 40-man roster, the Chicago Cubs have designated infielder Miles Mastrobuoni for assignment.
