ATHENS, Ga. — Quarterback Carson Beck from Georgia seems to be reevaluating his future plans for 2025, merely days after sharing his intention to enter the NFL draft.
Beck, who still has a year of eligibility remaining, has entered the transfer portal and intends to finish his college football journey at a different institution, according to reports from On3 and ESPN on Thursday.
During the Southeastern Conference championship game against Texas, Beck suffered an elbow injury in the first half, which led to the Bulldogs securing a 22-19 overtime victory on December 7 in Atlanta. The quarterback underwent surgery on December 23 to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, and he is anticipated to start throwing again in the spring.
Although he declared his intent to enter the NFL draft on December 28, the recent surgery could affect his standing among other quarterback prospects. Before the season commenced, he was seen as one of the top quarterbacks for the 2025 draft and was even projected as a likely first-round selection.
The NFL scouting combine is set to take place from February 27 to March 2, which may occur too soon for Beck to showcase his skills to general managers and coaches given his recent surgery.
Reports suggest that Beck is contemplating a transfer to Miami.
As the starting quarterback for Georgia in 2023 and 2024, Beck recorded a commendable 24-3 record. Following his injury, Gunner Stockton stepped in as the starter during Georgia’s 23-10 defeat to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl on January 2.
In that game, Stockton completed 20 out of 32 passes, amassing 234 yards and one touchdown, positioning him as a strong contender to take over the starting role for the upcoming 2025 season.
