ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild are facing a challenging situation as they report injuries to defensemen Jonas Brodin and Brock Faber ahead of their Thursday night matchup against Colorado.
Brodin is currently listed as day-to-day due to a lower-body issue sustained while blocking a shot during the team’s recent 6-4 victory over St. Louis. Meanwhile, head coach John Hynes provided no updates regarding Faber’s condition after the team’s morning practice, leaving uncertainty about the timeline for his recovery from an upper-body injury incurred after a hit from Blues forward Jake Neighbours during Faber’s initial shift in the same game.
Adding to the team’s woes, they are already without captain Jared Spurgeon, who is nursing a lower-body injury sustained from a slew foot by Nashville forward Zachary L’Heureux on December 31. Spurgeon is anticipated to be sidelined for an additional week or two, which means the Wild will be without three of their four primary defensemen for the match. Jake Middleton has just made a comeback after missing ten games due to an upper-body injury as well.
Furthermore, the absence of star left winger Kirill Kaprizov compounds the Wild’s difficulties; Kaprizov has missed seven consecutive games with a lower-body injury. He ranks tied for fourth in the NHL with 23 goals and is ninth overall with 50 points. Kaprizov has skated in the last two days, leading to speculation that he might return to the lineup shortly.
