Rockies complete one-year contract with infielder Thairo Estrada

Thairo Estrada has officially signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Rockies, which also includes a mutual option for the 2026 season, as announced on Thursday.

The 28-year-old player has taken on the role of second baseman over the past three seasons. Last year, while playing for the San Francisco Giants, he recorded a batting average of .217, hitting nine home runs and accumulating 47 RBIs.

On August 30, he was reassigned to Triple-A Sacramento and subsequently opted to enter free agency on October 1, exercising his right as a player with a minimum of three years of major league experience.

Throughout his career, Estrada has played in 469 games over six seasons, showcasing his versatility. He holds a lifetime batting average of .251, with 48 home runs, 195 RBIs, and 52 stolen bases. His career has spanned stints with the New York Yankees from 2019 to 2020 and the Giants from 2021 to 2024. In addition to second base, he has also played shortstop, third base, and all three outfield positions.

In a related development, the Rockies had reached an agreement with Kyle Farmer on a one-year deal worth $3.25 million earlier in November. This move followed the team’s choice not to renew Brendan Rodgers’s contract, which made him a free agent. Currently, Rodgers remains available on the open market.
