White’s 17 points lead Omaha to a 77-58 victory over UMKC

OMAHA, Neb. — In an impressive display of teamwork, the Omaha Mavericks secured a 77-58 victory over UMKC on Wednesday night, bolstered by standout performances from their players.

JJ White led the Mavericks with a total of 17 points, shooting 6 of 10 from the field, including 3 of 5 from the three-point line, and making 2 of 3 free throws. Fellow teammate Lance Waddles contributed equally with 17 points of his own, also shooting 6 for 10, with three of those shots coming from beyond the arc. Kamryn Thomas added to the offensive push with 14 points while maintaining a stellar 6 of 7 shooting performance.

The Kangaroos, on the other hand, were led by Babacar Diallo, who scored 15 points and made two steals during the game. Jamar Brown and Jayson Petty each chipped in with 12 points for UMKC. Unfortunately for the Kangaroos, this defeat marked the end of their six-game winning streak, putting their record at 10-8 overall and 2-1 in Summit League play.

The Mavericks established control of the game early, taking the lead just 57 seconds into the first half and never relinquishing it. By halftime, Omaha held a comfortable 33-25 lead, with Tony Osburn contributing 11 points. In the second half, Omaha intensified their performance, executing a powerful 13-0 run that propelled them from a modest five-point lead to an impressive 18-point advantage. Waddles stood out in the latter half, scoring 15 points and driving his team forward.

Looking ahead, Omaha will face South Dakota State at home on Saturday, while UMKC will travel to challenge North Dakota State on Thursday.
