SALT LAKE CITY — In an impressive showing, Serena Sundell contributed 15 points, while Ayoka Lee achieved another significant career milestone, as No. 12 Kansas State firmly defeated No. 22 Utah with a score of 71-47 on Wednesday night. This victory marked the Wildcats’ 11th consecutive win.

Lee scored 14 points during the game, pushing her career total to 2,450, which places her among the top 100 all-time scorers in NCAA history. Meanwhile, Kansas State’s coach Jeff Mittie has now tied Judy Akers for second place on the school’s all-time wins list, amassing a total of 206 victories.

The Wildcats (16-1, 4-0 Big 12 Conference) saw additional contributions from Temira Poindexter and Jaelyn Glenn, both of whom added 11 points; Glenn also recorded a notable 10 rebounds. For the Utes (12-3, 3-1), Gianna Kneepkens led the way with 12 points, while Reese Ross chipped in with 11 points.

A pivotal moment in the game came during the first half, where Kansas State embarked on an 18-2 scoring surge. Lee notched four points during this stretch, allowing the Wildcats to jump out to an 18-4 lead and ultimately hold a 20-7 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Utes made a late half run, finishing the second quarter with an 11-2 burst to close the gap, trailing 31-22 at halftime. The Wildcats shot an impressive 48% from the field in the first half, including sinking 4 of 7 from beyond the three-point line, while Utah struggled with a mere 23% shooting, hitting only 2 of 12 attempts from deep.

The decisive quarter came in the third, during which Kansas State outscored Utah 26-13, firmly asserting their control of the game. Having the best shooting percentage in the nation at 50.9% and limiting opponents to 31.7%, the Wildcats shot 49.2% for the game, while the Utes finished with just 30% shooting.

Looking ahead, Kansas State will remain in Utah to face BYU on Saturday, whereas the Utes will return home to take on Houston.
