ST. PAUL, Minn. — In an exciting overtime finish on Wednesday night, Taylor Heise scored her second goal of the season at 3:20, leading the Minnesota Frost to a 2-1 victory against the Boston Fleet.
Heise executed a breakaway, positioning herself to challenge Boston’s goaltender, Emma Soderberg, directly. With skillful precision, she fired the puck past Soderberg’s right side, securing the win for her team.
This match marked the third time this season that Minnesota has edged out Boston by a single goal, with two of those victories occurring in overtime.
The high-scoring Minnesota squad (3-3-1-2), currently leading the league with a remarkable total of 29 goals over nine games, faced a tough battle as they were limited to just one goal in regulation by Soderberg. The only marker before overtime came when Denisa Krizova found the net, tying the game midway through the first period.
The game started with an intense moment just four minutes in when Boston’s shot created a chaotic scene in front of Minnesota’s net. Hannah Bilka managed to recover the puck on the right side and drove it past goaltender Maddie Rooney, giving the Fleet an early 1-0 lead.
Rooney, however, showcased her skills and managed to stop all remaining shots from Boston (2-1-2-4), finishing with an impressive total of 26 saves. Soderberg, meanwhile, recorded 24 saves for her side.
The Frost played without forward Grace Zumwinkle, who is listed as day-to-day due to an upper body injury; goaltender Nicole Hensley is also day-to-day with a lower body injury.
Having completed a four-game homestand—the longest series of games they will play at home this season—Minnesota is set to travel to Denver for a Takeover Tour game against Montreal on Sunday.
Boston, fresh off a narrow 3-2 shootout victory over Montreal in a Takeover Tour match three days prior in Seattle, will face Ottawa on Sunday.
