EVANSVILLE, Ind. — In a strong showing, Tayshawn Comer led the Evansville Purple Aces to a 69-51 victory against Illinois State on Wednesday night, scoring 19 points and providing five assists. The win improved Evansville’s record to 6-10 overall and 3-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Joining Comer in the scoring effort, Tanner Cuff contributed 14 points along with five rebounds, while Cameron Haffner also netted 14 points, hitting 5 of 12 attempts from the field, including an impressive 4 for 9 from three-point range.

For the Redbirds, who now hold a record of 10-6 and 2-3 in the conference, Malachi Poindexter was the standout player with 14 points.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with Evansville taking a narrow lead of 34-30 at the break, during which Haffner tallied nine points. The Purple Aces seized control in the second half, capitalizing on a 10-0 run that helped them pull away from Illinois State. Comer was instrumental during this stretch, scoring 13 points in the latter part of the game.

Both teams are gearing up for their next match on Saturday, with Evansville traveling to face Drake and Illinois State set to welcome Northern Iowa.
