WORCESTER, Mass. — In an impressive display of basketball, Joe Nugent led the Holy Cross Crusaders to a 70-59 victory over the Navy Midshipmen on Wednesday evening.
Nugent finished the game with a commendable 21 points and also grabbed nine rebounds, helping his team improve to a record of 10 wins and 6 losses, along with 2 victories and 1 defeat in the Patriot League.
Caleb Kenney made notable contributions as well, scoring 18 points while shooting an efficient 75% from the field (9 of 12) and grabbing eight rebounds. DeAndre Williams added nine points on 4 of 9 shooting, along with five steals, providing essential support on both ends of the court.
For the Midshipmen, Aidan Kehoe was the standout player, recording a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He also showcased his defensive skills with two blocks and two steals. Donovan Draper right behind him, scored 12 points and contributed nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Carnegie Johnson added 10 points in the effort.
The game saw Nugent score 11 points in the first half, leading Holy Cross to a 38-30 advantage at halftime. Crucially, Kenney’s hook shot at the 15:27 mark of the second half secured the lead for Holy Cross at 44-42, which they maintained for the remainder of the game.
