The Carolina Panthers have started implementing changes within their defensive coaching staff following a disappointing season that resulted in the team allowing a record number of points.
According to a source familiar with the developments, the Panthers have let go of secondary coach Bert Watts, outside linebackers coach Tem Lukabu, and quality control coach Bobby Maffei. The information was shared on a condition of anonymity since the team has not publicly confirmed these changes yet.

Head coach Dave Canales expressed confidence in defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero’s ability, stating on Monday that he will remain with the team for the upcoming season due to his favorable view of the defensive schemes. Nonetheless, Canales did not indicate whether he would explore further changes to the defensive lineup at that time.

There is a possibility of additional staff adjustments as the team seeks to address the weaknesses in their defense. This season, the Panthers recorded a staggering 534 points against them, officially setting the record for the most points given up in a 17-game season. Furthermore, they averaged 31.4 points allowed per game, marking it as the sixth-highest average in NFL history.
