Bentancur ‘alert’ and transported to hospital following injury in Tottenham-Liverpool match

LONDON — In an intense match against Liverpool during the English League Cup semifinals on Wednesday, Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was taken off the field on a stretcher after an incident in the 14th minute. Bentancur fell to the ground during a corner kick, raising immediate concerns among players and fans alike.

Spurs’ manager, Ange Postecoglou, provided an update on the situation following Tottenham’s narrow 1-0 victory. Medical personnel quickly rushed to attend to Bentancur, who was seen lying face down on the pitch. The Uruguayan player had previously attempted a header from a curling ball delivered from the right side earlier in the match.

As Bentancur was being carried off, the crowd offered their support with applause, although the score remained level at 0-0 during that moment in the first leg of the tie. Eventually, Tottenham secured a win thanks to Lucas Bergvall’s goal in the 86th minute.

When questioned about Bentancur’s condition after the match, Postecoglou mentioned, “I obviously don’t have all the information, but from my perspective, he is conscious. He was aware as he left for the dressing room.” He went on to explain that Bentancur would be taken to the hospital for further examination to ensure his well-being.
