Conway, S.C. — Grayson McCall, the renowned quarterback for Coastal Carolina who had to step away from the sport due to concussion issues, is returning to the program in a coaching capacity.
This week, Coach Tim Beck made the announcement that McCall would serve as an offensive analyst alongside the new offensive coordinator, Drew Hollingshead. McCall expressed his enthusiasm about returning, stating, “So fired up to come back home! I’m very thankful for Coach Beck and Coach Hollingshead for giving me such a great opportunity. Can’t wait to light up the scoreboard in Brooks Stadium just like old times!!! Chants Up!”
During his tenure at Coastal Carolina from 2019 to 2023, McCall achieved remarkable success. He amassed a total of 10,005 passing yards in 42 games, completing 88 touchdown passes and accumulating just 14 interceptions. His impressive performance won him the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year title for three consecutive years in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Notably, he maintained a streak of throwing touchdown passes in 23 consecutive games over two seasons.
McCall transferred to North Carolina State for the 2024 season but played in only four games. His history of concussions, which dates back to his time with Coastal Carolina, ultimately led him to announce in October that he was retiring from professional play after suffering setbacks in two games.
Beck welcomed McCall’s return, stating, “Thrilled to be able to welcome Grayson McCall back home to Teal Nation. I have spoken before on the immeasurable impact he made here — both on the game and in our community — and we couldn’t be more excited that he will start his coaching career at Coastal.”
