ANAHEIM, Calif. — In an exciting matchup on Tuesday night, the Calgary Flames edged out the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-2 victory, highlighted by Jonathan Huberdeau’s power-play goal just 2:05 into overtime.
MacKenzie Weegar contributed significantly with a goal and an assist, helping the Flames bounce back from a pair of consecutive losses. Nazem Kadri also found the back of the net, and goalie Dustin Wolf made 25 saves to secure the win for Calgary.
Mason McTavish managed to level the score for the Ducks with 12:24 remaining in regulation. The Ducks have been performing well lately, having secured points in five of their last six games. Alex Killorn added to the scoreboard with a goal, while goaltender John Gibson made an impressive 30 saves.
Unfortunately for the Flames, Connor Zary suffered a left knee injury mid-game after a knee-to-knee collision with Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson, who was subsequently given a game misconduct.
Killorn struck for his eighth goal in a frantic final second of a 4-on-4 situation after Helleson’s ejection, but Kadri quickly responded with his 15th goal shortly after.
McTavish skillfully redirected a shot from Cutter Gauthier into the net during an Anaheim power-play opportunity, showcasing the Ducks’ offensive capabilities.
Looking at the key moments from the game, the Flames received a contentious interference call on Pavel Mintyukov during a wild scramble in 3-on-3 overtime, leading to a pivotal moment. As the Flames pressed their advantage, Jacob Trouba’s attempt to clear the puck from behind the Anaheim net took a fortunate deflection off the boards, landing right in front of Gibson. Huberdeau was quick to capitalize on the opportunity, knocking the puck home to secure victory.
In terms of statistics, the Ducks have struggled with their power play but found some momentum recently, scoring two power-play goals in their last three games after a prolonged drought of 1-for-31 over the preceding three weeks.
Looking ahead, the Flames will be heading to Los Angeles for a matchup against the Kings on Wednesday, while the Ducks will start a six-game trip in St. Louis on Thursday.
