KALAMAZOO, Mich. — In an exciting matchup on Tuesday night, Bowling Green managed to secure a close 83-79 victory over Western Michigan, thanks in large part to a standout performance from Trey Thomas, who poured in 22 points.
Thomas showcased his shooting skills by hitting 7 out of 15 attempts, which included 4 successful 3-point shots from 5 tries, along with going 4 for 5 from the charity stripe. His efforts helped the Falcons improve their season record to 6-8 and 1-1 within the Mid-American Conference.
Contributing significantly to the team’s success, Derrick Butler scored 19 points, achieving 6 of 14 shooting from the field, despite struggling from beyond the arc by missing all 6 of his three-point attempts. He was effective at the free-throw line, making 7 of 9 attempts, and added a valuable seven rebounds to his overall performance. Marcus Johnson also made a notable impact with 14 points, converting 6 of 11 shots and making 1 of 3 from distance.
On the opposing side, the Broncos battled hard, led by Owen Lobsinger who compiled 12 points alongside eight rebounds and two steals. Chansey Willis Jr. also played a critical role, contributing 11 points and dishing out four assists, while Max Burton matched his output with another 11 points. Unfortunately, Western Michigan’s losing streak has now extended to seven games, dropping their record to 3-11 and 0-2 in conference play.
The game began with Thomas putting up 11 points in the first half, but Bowling Green found themselves behind at halftime with a score of 42-38. In the second half, Butler stepped up significantly, contributing 15 points to push the Falcons ahead and secure the narrow win.
