Adam Henrique nets two goals, Connor McDavid adds a power-play tally as Oilers shut out Bruins 4-0

BOSTON — In an impressive showing, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Boston Bruins 4-0, marking their fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday night. Adam Henrique netted two goals, while Connor McDavid contributed with a power-play goal in the second period, further solidifying the Oilers’ strong performance this season, including 12 wins in their last 15 matches.

Stuart Skinner, despite a late first-period collision with Bruins’ Nikita Zadorov that temporarily sidelined him, returned to the game and made a total of 26 saves. Meanwhile, Viktor Arvidsson capped off the evening with an empty-net goal. However, Leon Draisaitl’s impressive point streak was halted at 14 games during this match.

This defeat marked the Bruins’ fifth consecutive loss, representing their most challenging stretch since Joe Sacco took over as interim coach following the firing of Jim Montgomery on November 19.

Henrique opened the scoring for the Oilers with a wrist shot from the slot just over six minutes into the game, putting them ahead 1-0. McDavid then doubled the lead at 11:11 in the second period, scoring his 16th goal of the season against Bruins’ goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who managed to make 35 saves despite the tough outing.

In a notable moment for officiating, referee Chris Rooney, who hails from Boston, officiated his 1,500th career game during this contest.

The Oilers showcased an impressive speed that proved overwhelming for the Bruins, as they have demonstrated against several teams this season. Conversely, this match marked the Bruins’ second consecutive home loss following a previous six-game winning streak at home.

A significant moment in the game occurred when McDavid received a pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, leading to a breakaway where he managed to score just seven seconds after Skinner made a crucial stop against Pavel Zacha’s break-in.

Looking at statistics, this game signified McDavid’s first goal since his contribution to the Oilers’ 3-2 overtime victory over the Bruins on December 19.

As for upcoming games, the Oilers will head to Pittsburgh on Thursday evening, while the Bruins will face off against Tampa Bay on the same night.
