ISLAMABAD — In a significant operation, Pakistani security forces have neutralized 19 militants during three coordinated strikes on their hideouts situated in the northwestern region of Pakistan, adjacent to Afghanistan. The operation unfolded early Tuesday and, unfortunately, resulted in the loss of three soldiers’ lives amid the exchanges of gunfire.
The military reported that 16 insurgents were eliminated during two distinct operations in the Peshawar and Mohmand districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Following this, a third raid conducted in Karak accounted for the death of an additional three militants, according to the military’s official announcement.
In light of these operations, both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed their commendation for the courageous actions of the troops, commending their commitment to combating militancy. They also honored the slain soldiers, describing them as “martyrs” and acknowledging their sacrifices for the nation.
The tightening of security measures comes in the wake of increased tensions, as Pakistan has escalated its intelligence-driven confrontations with the Pakistani Taliban (TTP). The TTP has gained momentum and confidence following the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban in 2021. Although the TTP operates independently, it maintains strong ties with the Afghan Taliban, which complicates the security landscape in the region.
