Antetokounmpo requires 3 stitches on his finger, then records a triple-double in victory against Raptors

TORONTO — Giannis Antetokounmpo, the star player for the Milwaukee Bucks, required three stitches to address a cut located near the base of his right pinkie finger during the game against the Toronto Raptors on Monday evening. Despite this injury, he managed to complete the game, achieving his fourth triple-double of the season.

The incident occurred when Antetokounmpo hit his finger on the rim while pursuing RJ Barrett’s fast-break dunk late in the second quarter. He concluded the game with impressive stats, including 11 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds, contributing to the Bucks’ decisive 128-104 victory over the struggling Raptors.

After the match, Antetokounmpo reassured fans and teammates, saying, “I’m fine. My finger is kind of numb, but I’m fine. I played the second half. It’s just stitches. I’m not going to overthink it.” He currently leads the NBA in scoring, averaging 31.6 points per game.

Bucks coach Doc Rivers commented on the injury, noting that although the cut was bothering Antetokounmpo, it wasn’t serious enough to warrant leaving the game. “He didn’t want to come out because he felt like he could finish, but it kept bleeding,” Rivers explained. He added that while Antetokounmpo was effective, the injury did impact his handling of the ball.

Antetokounmpo participated for just over 18 minutes in the first half and opted to sit out the fourth quarter after spending all but 34 seconds in the third quarter on the court. Rivers expressed confidence regarding Antetokounmpo’s health for the upcoming home game against San Antonio on Wednesday, stating, “I think he’s good.”
