The Baltimore Ravens’ wide receiver Zay Flowers has sustained a knee injury, but it will not end his season, according to coach John Harbaugh’s comments on Monday. However, Harbaugh did not provide any specific timeline for Flowers’ return to the field.
“It’s just going to be day to day, trying to do everything he can to get back as soon as possible,” stated Harbaugh during a video conference held on a snowy day in the Baltimore area. “We’ll see where that takes us.”
Flowers suffered the injury during the Ravens’ recent victory against the Cleveland Browns, a win that secured a home playoff game for the team as they prepare to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.
Following a standout rookie year in 2023, Flowers has continued to excel, becoming the first receiver in Ravens history to be named to the Pro Bowl. In the 2024 regular season, he recorded 74 receptions for 1,059 yards and four touchdowns.
Another Ravens receiver, Rashod Bateman, has also shown significant improvement in his fourth season, amassing 45 catches for 756 yards and nine touchdowns.
“He’s always been high on my list,” Harbaugh remarked about Bateman. “I think he’s a tremendous player, a great athlete and a fierce competitor. He has an excellent skill set as a wide receiver and has been performing at a high level all year. He made important plays for us during the game last week, contributing significantly on drives that led to scoring opportunities.”
Despite Flowers and Bateman’s contributions, the Ravens lack depth at wide receiver, particularly after a midseason trade for Diontae Johnson did not turn out as hoped. Nevertheless, they have two key tight ends, Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, who serve as essential targets in the passing game.
The Ravens, with star quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry, have made history by becoming the first team in the NFL to achieve both 4,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards in a single season.
“We have a lot of weapons on this team,” added Harbaugh. “We can move players around in various ways to create opportunities, and they all have the capability to make plays.”
Additionally, Harbaugh noted that running back Justice Hill and offensive lineman Patrick Mekari are both improving after dealing with illness that affected them during last weekend’s game. Hill was unable to play against the Browns, while Mekari only saw the field for a limited number of offensive snaps.
