MILWAUKEE — Sean Jones, a guard for Marquette, has decided to take a redshirt this season as he continues recovery from an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.
Jones has been sidelined since suffering a right knee injury during a game against Butler on January 10, 2024, where Marquette lost 69-62. Following his injury, he underwent surgery two weeks later to address the damage.
Marquette’s head coach, Shaka Smart, noted that by late November, Jones had made significant progress and was actively participating in five-on-five practice sessions.
According to university representatives, Jones will have two years of eligibility left upon his return to competitive play.
Standing at 5 feet 10 inches, the Columbus, Ohio native averaged 5.8 points, 2 assists, 1.5 rebounds, and spent an average of 16.3 minutes on the court over 16 games last season. In the previous year, 2022-2023, he played in 33 games, averaging 3.6 points, 1.1 assists, and 12.2 minutes per game.
Currently, the seventh-ranked Golden Eagles have a record of 13 wins and 2 losses, with a conference record of 4 wins and 0 losses. They are set to face Georgetown, who has a record of 12 wins and 2 losses and is also undefeated in the Big East at 3-0, this coming Tuesday.
