Georgia signs siblings Zacharia and Zion Branch from USC; Rashada allegedly enters transfer portal.

The Georgia Bulldogs have secured two prominent players from the transfer portal as siblings Zachariah and Zion Branch have decided to leave Southern California to join the team. Their announcement was made on social media this past Sunday, revealing they will both have two years of eligibility remaining.

In a contrasting development, it appears that Georgia has lost its third-string quarterback, Jaden Rashada. Reports indicate that Rashada may be on the move for his fourth different university. He initially signed with Florida in 2022 but departed just two months later, subsequently filing a lawsuit against head coach Billy Napier and a supporter over a purported breach of a substantial NIL agreement. After spending time at Arizona State in 2023, he transferred to Georgia, although he did not see any gameplay there.

Meanwhile, former Boise State quarterback Malachi Nelson has announced his transfer to UTEP. The college made the announcement on Monday. Nelson was highly regarded as one of the top recruits of 2023 and initially signed with Southern California. After playing in just one game for the Trojans, he moved on to Boise State, where he participated in three games this season.

Zachariah Branch, a receiver, was a five-star athlete hailing from Las Vegas, contributing 78 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns during his first two years at USC. Despite his promising start, he struggled with drops and failed to become the high-caliber wide receiver anticipated in USC coach Lincoln Riley’s system. Additionally, his performance as a punt returner yielded only 74 yards this season, further frustrating expectations.

Zion Branch, who plays safety, has faced numerous injury challenges since joining the Trojans in 2022. Over the last two seasons, he has managed to accumulate only 41 tackles after missing the entire 2022 season due to a lower-body injury.

USC has seen a significant number of top recruits from Lincoln Riley’s initial recruiting efforts leave through the transfer portal. Players like Zachariah Branch, Duce Robinson, and future Penn State commit Kyron Hudson are among those who have opted to transfer from what has been considered a notably underperforming group of receivers in USC’s history.
