BREMEN, Germany — Manchester City has officially loaned Issa Kaboré to Werder Bremen as of Monday, marking the Burkina Faso defender’s sixth loan move without having appeared in a single game for the English champions.
The transfer to the German team is set to be finalized pending international clearance. Kaboré, who is 23 years old and plays primarily as a right-back, already spent the initial half of the season with Benfica, where he participated in seven matches, including a pair in the prestigious Champions League competition.
Currently, Werder Bremen sits in seventh place in the Bundesliga, trailing just two points behind the fourth spot, which would secure them a place in the Champions League for the following season.
Since he was signed by Manchester City in July 2020, Kaboré has not yet made a senior appearance for the squad, although he did serve as an unused substitute in two matches earlier this season.
On the international front, Kaboré represented Burkina Faso five times this season, playing a crucial role in the team’s historic qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. This prestigious tournament, which will take place in Morocco, is set to kick off in December.
