JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars arrived back in their hometown early Monday after enduring a lengthy seven-hour wait on the tarmac at Indianapolis International Airport due to a winter storm.
The National Weather Service indicated that central Indiana experienced significant snowfall, accumulating between 2 to 5 inches, alongside freezing drizzle and wind gusts reaching as high as 40 mph.
The Jaguars, with a current record of 4-13, were aiming to leave Indianapolis before the storm’s intensity peaked. However, the overtime extension of their game against the Colts led to delays preventing their timely departure. Ultimately, the Jaguars lost the game with a score of 26-23.
After waiting until approximately 1 a.m. EST, their charter flight was finally permitted to take off and touched down in Jacksonville two hours later. The extended wait disrupted owner Shad Khan’s prearranged meeting with head coach Doug Pederson, intended to map out the team’s plans for the future.
In contrast, the Kansas City Chiefs managed to bypass the adverse weather conditions by opting to remain in Denver overnight after their match against the Broncos.
