BERLIN — The toll from the tragic incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg has sadly increased to six, following the recent passing of a woman who had been hospitalized with severe injuries. Prosecutors confirmed this development on Monday.

A 52-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries, as reported by the German news agency dpa. Previously confirmed victims included four women aged 45, 52, 67, and 75, as well as a 9-year-old boy, all of whom were affected by the horrific attack.

The incident on December 20 resulted in over 200 injuries, devastating the community and leaving many in shock. Authorities have apprehended the individual responsible for this tragedy. He is identified as a Saudi physician who moved to Germany in 2006 and has obtained permanent residency status.

Officials noted that this suspect does not conform to the typical profile of those associated with extremist acts. The individual has publicly identified as an ex-Muslim and has voiced strong critiques of Islam, as well as expressing support for far-right ideologies on social media.
