OTTAWA, Ontario — Eduard Sale netted the decisive goal in the 14th round of a shootout, leading Czechia to a 3-2 triumph over Sweden in the third-place match of the world junior hockey championship on Sunday.
Sale successfully converted on his fifth attempt during the shootout, which was the 28th attempt by players from both teams, by executing a slick move to his backhand, ultimately overcoming Swedish goalie Marcus Gidlof.
In regulation play, both Sale and Jakub Stancl found the back of the net for Czechia, while Michael Hrabal was key in goal, stopping a total of 32 shots throughout the intense match.
For Sweden, David Edstrom was a standout performer, scoring both of his team’s goals. Gidlof, the Swedish netminder, made a commendable 30 saves in an effort to keep his team competitive throughout the game.
