KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals have come to an agreement with utility player Cavan Biggio on a minor league contract as of Sunday.
Cavan Biggio, the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, made his debut in Major League Baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019. His career has recently seen some movement, as he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 12, then released on August 8. Shortly after, he found a new home with the San Francisco Giants, signing with them just 15 days later, and was later traded to the Atlanta Braves on September 7. Ultimately, he decided to become a free agent on November 1.
At 29 years old, Biggio has a career batting average of .225, accumulating 51 home runs, 186 runs batted in (RBIs), and 32 stolen bases throughout his time in the league. In the previous season, he struggled at the plate, finishing with a batting average of .197, along with five homers and 19 RBIs across 78 games.
While primarily recognized as a second baseman, Biggio has showcased versatility by playing virtually all positions on the field except for pitcher and catcher. Last season, he earned $4.21 million.
