EMMITSBURG, Md.
— In a competitive matchup on Sunday, Carmelo Pacheco contributed significantly to the Mount St. Mary’s victory over Niagara, leading the scoring with 14 points in a close game that ended 68-62.
The Mountaineers improved their season record to 9-5 and 2-1 within the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Pacheco also showcased his defensive skills, achieving three steals during the game. Jedy Cordilia was another key player, putting up 12 points with an impressive shooting performance, completing 5 of 6 attempts from the field and converting 2 of 4 free throws. Additionally, they collectively made three blocks in defense. Arlandus Keyes was effective from long range, hitting 3 of 3 from beyond the arc and totaling 11 points in the game.
On the other side, Jahari Williamson topped the scoring for the Purple Eagles, finishing with 15 points, while Zion Russell and Justice Smith contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively. This loss brought Niagara’s record to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference play.
Both teams are set to return to the court this coming Friday, with Mount St. Mary’s traveling to face Manhattan and Niagara hosting Saint Peter’s.
