DURHAM, N.C. — In a commanding performance, Reigan Richardson scored 13 points, marking her achievement of 1,000 career points, as the No. 14 Duke Blue Devils decisively defeated Pittsburgh with a score of 69-31 on Sunday.
Richardson reached this significant milestone during a stellar 7-0 run by Duke at the start of the second half. With a halftime lead of 38-15, the Blue Devils extended their advantage to 32 points with just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter. Richardson subsequently added a jumper, restoring their 32-point cushion at 53-21 as they entered the final quarter. By the end of the match, she had accumulated a total of 1,002 points.
Jordan Wood contributed by sinking a 3-pointer and later converting a free throw, helping Duke achieve a staggering 39-point lead with only six and a half minutes left in the game. The Panthers struggled offensively during the final five and a half minutes, failing to make a single shot and going 0 for 7 during that critical stretch.
The Blue Devils’ defense was formidable, as they forced 29 turnovers, while Pittsburgh managed only 11 field goals throughout the game. Duke showcased a superior shooting percentage at 46%, compared to 24% for the Panthers, and also dominated in bench points with 24, in stark contrast to Pittsburgh’s mere 1 point from its bench.
For Duke, Delaney Thomas added 10 points to the scoreboard in their winning effort. On the other side, Khadija Faye was the standout performer for the Panthers, contributing 17 points, which accounted for 55% of Pittsburgh’s total score. Notably, only five players managed to get on the scoreboard for the Panthers in this matchup, as they moved to an 8-8 record with a disappointing 0-3 in conference play.
The game initially saw the score tied at 9 in the first quarter before Duke closed the period with an impressive 11-0 run. This dominant momentum continued into the second quarter, where they pushed their run to 17-0 before Pitt’s Mikayla Johnson broke the drought with a free throw after a lengthy 6 and a half minutes without scoring.
Duke maintained its perfect record against Pittsburgh, having won all 17 encounters between the two teams. Looking ahead, Duke is set to face No. 17 North Carolina on Thursday, while Pittsburgh will host Louisville on the same day.
