KINGSTON, R.I. — In a thrilling contest on Saturday, Sebastian Thomas propelled Rhode Island to a narrow victory against George Mason, scoring 23 points, including the decisive jump shot with just one second left on the clock, securing a 62-59 win for the Rams.
Thomas showcased his skill by not only sinking the crucial jumper but also drawing a foul, converting the resulting free throw that effectively sealed the game.
He finished the matchup with an impressive shooting line, going 8-for-13 overall, which included 3-for-7 from beyond the arc and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. His performance was crucial for Rhode Island as they improved their record to 12-2 overall and 1-1 within the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Additionally, Javonte Brown contributed significantly with nine points, while also dominating on the boards with 13 rebounds and recording six blocks. He shot 3-for-8 from the field and was an effective 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.
For the Patriots, who now stand at 10-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, Darius Maddox led all scorers with 14 points. Woody Newton and Brayden O’Connor supported the effort with 13 and 12 points, respectively, rounding out the scoring for George Mason.
In the first half, Thomas managed to register 12 points; however, Rhode Island trailed at halftime by a score of 34-25. In the latter half, Thomas not only stepped up again, adding 11 more points, but also delivered the pivotal shot that clinched the victory for the Rams.
