Thomas Tuchel, donning a heavy coat and a baseball cap, began his scouting duties in his new capacity as the coach for the England soccer team.

His initial assignment was to observe the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Newcastle on Saturday.

Tuchel is likely to be satisfied with the early developments of the match.

In the opening minutes of gameplay, two players who are expected to be part of Tuchel’s initial roster scored goals—Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke netted a goal in the fourth minute, followed closely by Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon. The encounter ended with Newcastle claiming a 2-1 victory, which featured England squad players Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento as well.

Tuchel’s official tenure commenced on Wednesday, and he, along with his coaching staff, is scheduled to visit St. George’s Park—the training facility for the England team—next week. During this visit, they will engage in a number of introductory meetings with pertinent staff members.

Tuchel’s inaugural matches at the helm will be during the World Cup qualifiers against Albania on March 21 and Latvia three days later. His contract with the England national team is set to last until the World Cup finals in the summer of 2026, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
