ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In a thrilling matchup, Nelly Junior Joseph snatched a loose ball and sank a jumper just inside the free-throw line as the clock expired in overtime, securing an 82-81 victory for New Mexico against Nevada on Friday night.
With this win, the Lobos improved to a record of 12-3 and became 4-0 in the Mountain West Conference. This game also marked a special milestone, being the 1,000th college basketball game played in New Mexico’s notable arena, The Pit.
In a nail-biting finish, Nevada managed to tie the game in the final second of regulation play. Nick Davidson was the clutch performer, making two free throws that tied the score at 70-70.
Joseph achieved his 50th career double-double, contributing significantly to the victory with a solid performance that included 20 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Donovan Dent also had an impressive outing, scoring 20 points and providing six assists, while Mustapha Amzil chipped in with 14 points.
On the other side, Nevada’s Kobe Sanders led his team with 21 points, followed closely by Nick Davidson who added 18 points, along with six rebounds, five blocks, and four assists. Tre Coleman added to the scoring with 12 points, and Justin McBride played effectively off the bench with 11 points.
New Mexico is set to face Wyoming on Tuesday, while Nevada will head to Fresno State for their next matchup on January 11.
