WASHINGTON — In an exciting matchup, Malik Mack led Georgetown to a 69-63 victory over Xavier with an impressive performance on Friday night.
Mack scored a total of 26 points, finishing the game with a shooting efficiency of 50%, converting 8 of his 16 attempts from the field, and hitting 3 out of 9 from long range. He was also effective from the free-throw line, making 7 of 9. Alongside him, Micah Peavy contributed significantly by adding 15 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds, shooting 7 of 14 overall. Thomas Sorber pitched in with 12 points, making 5 of 12 from the field and hitting 2 of 3 from the charity stripe.
For the Musketeers, Zach Freemantle was a standout player as well, scoring 16 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Dayvion McKnight supported the team with 12 points and four assists, while Ryan Conwell also ended the game with 12 points to his name.
Georgetown took a narrow lead into halftime, leading Xavier 30-24. Peavy was instrumental during the opening half, scoring a total of 11 points. The latter part of the game saw Mack’s stellar performance as he scored 20 points in the second half, which ultimately secured Georgetown’s six-point victory.
Both teams are set to continue their campaigns on Tuesday, with Georgetown traveling to face Marquette and Xavier hosting St. John’s.
