EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings have decided to exclude backup edge rusher Patrick Jones from their upcoming game against the Detroit Lions due to a knee injury sustained from a low block by Green Bay tight end Tucker Kraft in the previous week’s matchup.

Jones did not participate in practice throughout the week, meaning he will not be available for the crucial regular-season finale against the Lions, a contest that will decide both the NFC North champion and the top seed in the NFC playoffs. As the third-highest sack leader on the team with seven sacks this season, his absence is significant. This situation will likely lead to an increased workload for rookie Dallas Turner, who will be working alongside starters Andrew Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard. Both Van Ginkel and Greenard were recently selected as Pro Bowl starters.

On the other hand, the Lions have included linebacker Alex Anzalone in their injury report, labeling him as questionable ahead of the game against the Vikings. Anzalone has been sidelined for the last six weeks due to a broken forearm. Additionally, backup wide receiver Kalif Raymond is also questionable with a foot injury that has kept him out for the past five games, while running back David Montgomery has been ruled out due to a knee injury, marking his third consecutive game missed. However, the Lions are optimistic about his potential return for the playoffs.
