Nice secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Rennes on Friday, climbing to fourth place in Ligue 1.
The match was filled with opportunities for both teams, leading to an exciting display of football throughout. It was Nice who struck first, taking the lead just 12 minutes into the game.
Tanguy Ndombélé delivered a magnificent lofted pass, allowing Evann Guessand to break free and score after managing to fend off a persistent defender.
Rennes responded with an equalizer in the 27th minute, as Arnaud Kalimuendo found the net. However, Nice quickly regained the advantage just seven minutes later through Sofiane Diop, who capitalized on a misplaced pass from goalkeeper Steve Mandanda to score.
In first-half stoppage time, Gaëtan Laborde, a former Rennes player, extended Nice’s lead to 3-1, receiving a well-timed assist from Guessand.
The visitors were not deterred and managed to pull a goal back shortly after the interval, with Adrien Truffert converting when Nice’s keeper failed to securely handle a long-range strike.
As the match progressed, both teams sought additional goals, but Nice held firm, even amidst the setback of Pablo Rosario’s late red card for a high tackle.
With this victory, Nice maintained their unbeaten streak at home, bringing their total points to 27, putting them level with Lille and two points clear of Lyon.
Conversely, Rennes remained in 12th place in the league standings.
